Senior Process and Safety Design Engineer
A leading green hydrogen company is seeking a Senior Process and Safety Design Engineer to be part of a revolutionary venture in large-scale hydrogen electrolysis for industrial decarbonization. Backed by prominent investors and Fortune 100 firms, this company is dedicated to addressing the challenge of decarbonization across tough sectors of the global economy.
In this role, you'll be instrumental in the process design team, focusing on both process engineering and safety design tasks for modular skid-mounted Electrolyzers and Balance of Plant.
Responsibilities:
- Design a modular process skid for a groundbreaking hydrogen plant, emphasizing rapid and cost-effective scalability.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on process safety design for H2 and O2 plants.
- Develop area classification plans and leak & flame detection plans.
- Conduct SIL calculations and SIF verification.
- Collaborate with third parties for ventilation studies, blast calculations, and CFD modeling.
- Lead internal PHA, LOPA, and MOC sessions.
- Develop and revise P&IDs, PFDs, Heat and Material Balances, Process Simulations, Control Philosophies, and Utility Specifications.
- Specify Equipment, Piping Systems, Pumps, Control Valves, and Instrumentation, liaising with vendors for quotations.
- Become proficient in codes and standards relevant to hydrogen electrolyzers and plants, ensuring compliance and driving ISO certification.
- Mentor junior engineers.
- De-risk product through pilot plant operations, validating components and processes.
- Interface with vendors and fabricators to optimize cost-performance tradeoffs.
- Prioritize safety, compliance, and continuous improvement throughout all activities.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum 7 years of industry experience in chemical processing industries.
- Experience with Facility Siting Studies.
- Previous involvement with electrochemical processes like hydrogen electrolyzers or chlor alkali plants preferred.
- Proficiency in PFDs, P&IDs, Management of Change, and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA).
- Hands-on experience in engineering, design, procurement, and construction of large-scale plants, preferably modular.
- Strong leadership skills and ability to guide development activities strategically.
- Startup experience is advantageous.
- Passion for decarbonization efforts is highly desired.
Preferred Experience:
- Design, fabrication, and deployment of modular process skids and pilot plants.
- Proficiency in process modeling and cost modeling software.
- Familiarity with properties and handling requirements of hydrogen, oxygen, and caustic.
- Previous involvement in renewable energy, climate tech, or chemical industries.
