Responsibilities for this position include:
- Designs a variety of roadway project types including urban streets, rural highways, bridge replacements, sidewalks and trails, complex interchanges, roundabouts and intersection improvements
- Collaborates with project team members, client representatives, review agencies to resolve a variety of complex problems
- Supervises the work of less experienced engineers and/or technical support personnel assigned to the project
- Prepares and reviews technical reports, drawings, plans, specifications, and permits for projects
- Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents
- Prepares cost estimates for assigned projects
- Conducts project site visits, as needed
- Demonstrates strong attention to detail
- Demonstrates strong organizational and time management skills; Works independently on multiple tasks without immediate supervision
- Builds and maintains excellent interpersonal relationships
- Demonstrates working knowledge of Georgia Department of Transportation systems, policies, and procedures
- Understands standard operations, policies and procedures of a firm, preferably within the A/E industry
- Performs other duties as requested
Education/Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology from an accredited program
- Minimum of 4 years of roadway design experience
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Tennessee, or an ability to obtain PE in Tennessee within 6 months of start date, is required
- Experience using MicroStation V8i and Inroads is required; OpenRoads experience is a plus
- Working knowledge of the practical application of engineering principles, practices and techniques, including AASHTO guidelines
- Skill using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel
- Tennessee Department of Transportation project experience is desired
