CONSULTING ENGINEER
TRANSMISSION PLANNING / INTERCONNECTION
(PSSE, PSLF, or PowerFlow software required)
JOB TITLE: Consulting Engineer
LOCATION: open to remote work arrangements
RESPONSIBILITIES: Selected candidate will be required to:
- Perform bulk transmission and interconnection analysis using commercial powerflow software such as PowerWorld, PSS/e, or PSLF.
- Evaluate transmission systems and energy market dynamics under high penetrations of renewable and complex transmission expansion build outs.
- Develop reasonable and technically supported study assumptions using the best available data and market intelligence.
- Consider the technical and commercial viability of new generation, storage, and transmission projects proposed by clients.
- Coordinate and manage power system data across modeling platforms and proprietary data sets.
- Develop generator interconnection powerflow models and have familiarity with generator interconnection processes.
- Understand and apply study methods consistent utility ISO/RTO and transmission owner business practices and tariffs.
- Conceptualize and develop original tools using Excel or other programming languages, such as Python.
JOB REQUIRMENTS AND SKILLS
Minimum Job Requirements and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field.
- Competent in Microsoft Excel, with a focus on data quality and organization.
- Clear and concise written communication, with ability to document methods, assumptions, and derive conclusions with the assistance of management and experts.
- Prior experience using powerflow simulation software.
- Familiarity with NERC Planning Standards and Transmission Planning Criteria.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and highly focused work environment.
- Self-starter eager to contribute to the firm's success and growth.
- Eagerness to collaborate with small internal teams and clients.
Preferred Skills:
- Master's degree or higher in engineering or related field.
- Industry experience with preference for experience in power system planning or modeling at an ISO/RTO or utility o Prefer experience in the WECC footprint and located in western or central U.S.
- Past experience performing powerflow analysis (PowerWorldโข experience is preferred but not required.
- Ability to work within a team setting, delivering a discrete portion of a larger project or objective.
- Familiar with FERC-jurisdictional transmission and interconnection service studies.
- Passionate and genuine interest in the evolution of the grid and development of new technologies and infrastructure, including energy storage, transmission and generation.
