The Position: Bridge Inspection Engineer
The firm is currently seeking a dedicated Bridge Inspection Engineer for their Indianapolis office. As a Bridge Inspection Engineer, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and integrity of crucial transportation infrastructure. This position presents excellent opportunities for growth, with the potential to handle multiple projects and even become a project manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform meticulous bridge and small structure inspections, producing comprehensive reports and load ratings.
- Utilize both manual and software-supported bridge analysis and design computations.
- Conduct on-site visits to local and Midwest project locations, carrying out bridge and small structure inspections, verifying existing conditions during design, and providing construction support engineering.
- Collaborate closely with other transportation department disciplines, including survey, roadway, drainage, planning, and environmental, to ensure seamless project execution.
Requirements:
To excel in this position, the ideal candidate should possess:
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE).
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in bridge inspection, design, detailing, and related transportation structures/facilities.
- Previous experience in preparing bridge structure plans for INDOT or DOT projects.
- Proficiency in using the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Manual, INDOT Bridge Design Manual, Bridge Inspection Reference Manual, INDOT Bridge Inspection Manual, and BRAGI.
- Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.
- A valid driver's license and excellent organizational and time management skills.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
While not required, the following skills and qualifications are desirable:
- Qualified Team Leader - Bridge Inspector's Reference Manual (FHWA NHI 12-049) Section 1.2.3.
- Qualified Diver-Inspector - Bridge Inspector's Reference Manual (FHWA NHI 12-049) Section 13.3.4.
- ACDI Commercial Diver or Commercial Surface Supply Air Diver certification.
- Professional Engineer license.
