Job Title: Senior Transmission Planner - Renewable Energy
Job Summary: The Senior Transmission Planner in renewable will be responsible for designing, planning, and optimizing the transmission infrastructure necessary to accommodate the integration of renewable energy sources, such as wind, solar, and hydroelectric power, into the electrical grid. This role involves evaluating existing transmission systems, identifying potential bottlenecks or limitations, and developing strategies to overcome these challenges. The Senior Transmission Planner collaborates with various stakeholders, including utilities, regulatory bodies, and project developers, to ensure the successful integration of renewable energy into the grid.
Key Responsibilities:
Transmission System Assessment:
- Evaluate the existing transmission infrastructure to identify constraints and limitations that may hinder the integration of renewable energy sources.
- Conduct technical assessments to determine the capacity of the transmission system and identify potential upgrades or expansions required.
Renewable Energy Integration Planning:
- Develop comprehensive transmission plans and strategies to accommodate the integration of renewable energy projects into the grid.
- Collaborate with renewable energy project developers to ensure their projects align with grid requirements.
Grid Modeling and Analysis:
- Utilize advanced grid modeling software and tools to simulate the impact of renewable energy projects on the transmission system.
- Perform load flow studies, transient stability analysis, and contingency analysis to assess system reliability.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Stay up-to-date with regional and national regulatory requirements related to transmission planning and ensure that projects comply with these regulations.
- Assist in the preparation of regulatory filings and provide technical expertise during regulatory proceedings.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Work closely with utilities, grid operators, renewable energy developers, and government agencies to facilitate effective communication and collaboration.
- Address concerns and negotiate agreements with stakeholders to ensure grid integration success.
Project Management:
- Oversee the planning and execution of transmission infrastructure projects, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Monitor project progress and ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget.
Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
- Identify potential risks and challenges associated with transmission planning and develop mitigation strategies.
- Ensure grid reliability and resilience in the face of intermittent renewable energy generation.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Analyze data related to grid performance, renewable energy production, and transmission system operations.
- Prepare reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in electrical engineering, renewable energy, or a related field.
- Several years of experience in PSS/E, PSLF, TARA, ASPEN
- Proficiency in grid modeling software and tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
- Project management experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance in the energy sector.
