Senior Automation Engineer

This role involves the design and leadership of industrial automation projects, ensuring they are executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with our mission to be an innovative, collaborative, and ethical organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Control System Design & Development: Lead the design, development, and commissioning of control systems for industrial projects. This includes creating technical specifications, control system architecture, PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens), HMI configuration, and configuring Motor Control Centers, Servo drives, and VFDs.
- Project Scope & Documentation: Prepare detailed engineering scopes, inspection and testing plans, construction work scopes, and commissioning plans related to control systems.
- Technical Communication: Collaborate with project stakeholders to address technical issues at all stages of the project lifecycle.
- Commissioning & Start-Up: Oversee commissioning and start-up activities, ensuring successful implementation of control systems. Support cross-functional team efforts.
- Commitment to Excellence: Uphold high standards of quality in project delivery, cost management, and client relationship development.
- Project Management: Utilize project management tools to monitor and manage budgets, schedules, and scopes for projects of varying sizes.
- Field Support: Work alongside field service engineers to troubleshoot and resolve issues in the field.
Qualifications:
- Technical Proficiency: Skilled in PLC programming, particularly with A/B and Siemens systems, and experienced in control networks/buses, Ethernet, and IP networks.
- Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively in team settings.
- Analytical Skills: Capable of conducting detailed analysis and problem-solving, particularly in machine health monitoring and industrial gearboxes.
- Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Software Engineering preferred, with at least seven (7) years of experience in industrial automation.
- Industry Experience: Familiarity with controls in the pulp & paper industry is an advantage.
- Travel Requirement: Willingness to travel approximately 10-30% of the time.
