Senior Project Manager
PRIMARY FUNCTION
The key role of a Senior Project Manager is to oversee assigned projects in alignment with the company's commitment to safety, quality, and client satisfaction, while ensuring the best financial outcome. This role requires adherence to company policies and procedures. Senior Project Managers are tasked with defining project objectives, maintaining client communication, securing funds, budgeting across departments, and managing the project's completion.
The Senior Project Manager reports to the Regional Manager and collaborates with the Vice President of Operations on budget, labor, and equipment coordination, as well as the assignment of supervisors, foremen, engineers, health and safety officers, and workers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Initiate client communication to determine project scope and resources needed for successful completion.
- Develop detailed project estimates by reviewing specifications, drawings, and proposals.
- Oversee construction to ensure it meets design, budget, and timeline expectations, including coordination with clients, architects, engineers, and contractors.
- Plan, coordinate, and manage onsite activities, including scheduling, engineering, and material control, and provide day-to-day direction to administrative staff as needed.
- Offer technical guidance on drawings, construction methods, and equipment, and manage extra work estimating and change orders.
- Assume responsibility for the project's contractual performance.
- Lead cross-functional teams to deliver projects on time, within specifications, and efficiently.
- Outline project tasks and delegate responsibilities.
- Perform cost analysis and estimate project costs.
- Create and manage a budget based on estimates.
- Conduct risk assessments, report risks to management, and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Address client and stakeholder concerns throughout the project.
- Act as a liaison between the company, customers, and vendors.
- Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to provide necessary training and information for promoting and selling new projects.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, local, industry, contractual, and company regulations and standards.
- Perform additional tasks as directed by the supervisor.
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE
- A 4-year engineering degree or an equivalent combination of technical training and related experience.
- At least eight years of experience in construction management, estimating, or craft supervision in similar construction projects.
- Extensive knowledge of construction processes, including technology, equipment, methods, craft agreements, negotiations, engineering, estimating, schedules, and safety.
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills are essential.
- Solid understanding of construction law, including experience with federal and commercial construction contracts, change orders, and dispute resolution.
- Experience with government services, contract administration, and procurement is required; construction services experience is preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Excel.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, leadership capabilities, and the ability to independently resolve contract issues.
- Proactive and responsive to both internal and external customer needs.
- Ability to make independent decisions and advise project leadership on complex issues.
- Strong understanding or quick learning capability of the project or product under development.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, management, and coworkers, both individually and in group settings.
- Frequent use of phone and email for communication.
- Ability to sit for extended periods.
- Normal hearing, vision, and speech are essential for communication and document preparation.
- Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
- Manual dexterity for using office equipment like computers and fax machines.
- Strong reasoning ability, with the capacity to understand and use management reports, memos, and other documents.
- Primarily a site-based role with necessary site and field project visits. Travel to various office and project locations across the country may be required. The following activities are often associated with site visits:
- Standing or walking on project sites for extended periods.
- Wearing all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during site visits, including earplugs, protective eyewear, gloves, hard hats, steel-toed boots, and high-visibility safety gear.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This role is primarily conducted outdoors on construction sites, with location flexibility depending on company needs.
While the Senior Project Manager may have a main office, most of their time will be spent in a field office onsite, monitoring projects and making key decisions.
This position typically requires full-time hours, with the potential for overtime to meet project deadlines. Managers may also need to be on call 24/7 to address emergencies.
Environmental and atmospheric conditions commonly associated with this role include:
- Exposure to machinery, tools, heavy equipment, chemicals, solvents, dust, and fumes on job sites.
- Occasional exposure to extreme weather conditions.
- Uneven ground surfaces.
