We have a current opportunity for a Principal Substation Civil/Structural Engineer out of the following locations: Palm Beach Gardens, FL / Tampa, FL / New Orleans, LA / Potentially Fully Remote Flexible for Qualifying Candidates (Must be living within the U.S. and be on either EST or CST to qualify for a fully remote set-up)
Job Description:
Develop, coordinate & oversee substation related design activities on the civil/structural side. The successful candidate will perform substation physical/civil utility system, analysis, design, inspection & other related assignments. Responsibilities also include managing the design of substation projects from conception through construction & commissioning.
Main Responsibilities:
- Work with multi-disciplinary engineers for the design of substation projects
- Oversee handling multiple projects and providing a detailed design package that complies with applicable engineering design standards and all safety codes for use by technical staff, drafting personnel, clients & contractors
- Resolve site queries, attend site meetings and perform site inspections during the construction phase of projects
- Support the technical and economic evaluation of substation design studies
- Prepare engineering details & drawings & support revision as required
- Ability to travel up to 20%
- Performs other duties as assigned or required
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
Licensure: Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) is required
Experience Level: 8+ years of direct experience in the development, design, engineering & construction of substation projects. Transmission design experience also is preferred.
Skills/Abilities:
- Must have a strong knowledge of substation design, excellent communication & project management skills
- Requires technical competence in substation site civil design, grading & physical layout design, Bus & structural calculations, grounding and foundation
- Familiarity with utility industry standards and practices to include NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI
- Must be competent with the following software:
- Microsoft Office Suite
- AutoCAD Inventor
- AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Grading Software
- L-Pile
- Bluebeam (preferred)
