Job Title: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (HVAC Systems)

Position Summary:
My client is seeking a seasoned Mechanical Design Manager with strong leadership capabilities to oversee all aspects of HVAC system design for large projects or multiple small projects. This role requires the management of design teams, coordination with project management, and collaboration with external partners like architects, contractors, and other trades. The successful candidate will lead both the technical and preconstruction aspects of design-build and design-assist projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of design engineers in HVAC system design and documentation for diverse projects.
- Manage preconstruction activities, focusing on design processes for both design-build and design-assist projects.
- Prepare preliminary design layouts and offer technical guidance for developing standards and project execution.
- Represent the company as a design professional at client and team meetings.
- Collaborate with clients, contractors, architects, and project team members to ensure successful project delivery.
- Perform calculations and create deliverables such as heating/cooling loads, equipment sizing, pipe/duct sizing, and more.
- Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with construction documents and resolve design issues during construction.
- Maintain strong relationships with external project teams throughout the preconstruction phase.
What You'll Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (B.S.), with a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in HVAC design and project management.
- In-depth knowledge of HVAC systems, equipment, and operations (e.g., variable air, constant volume, refrigeration cycle).
- Competence in reading and interpreting mechanical and plumbing drawings.
- Proficiency in software tools like CADD, Trane, and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Strong communication skills to work effectively with project management, field trades, general contractors, and clients.
