Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with data reduction, calculations, analytical work, and/or standard testing and makes timely and sound judgments during the basic analysis of data while independently investigates unusual results;
- May perform failure Investigation and analysis, structural and architectural assessments, repair and rehabilitation analysis, and construction evaluation;
- Perform assigned project tasks within specified timelines, seeks guidance and when working with complex issues and keeps appropriate party informed of progress;
- Assist with the development of reports and proposals related to project work;
- Perform evaluation, surveys, and investigations in the field or lab and take appropriate notes, samples and/or photos;
- Assist with development of repair drawings and specifications;
- Monitor contractor work for quality assurance, answering contractor questions and keeping client informed of progress;
- Effectively communicate with clients to attain information, respond to requests and inquiries and report status of work;
- Research vendors and place orders with manager's approval for needed equipment and materials;
- Proactively identify areas of learning and participate in professional development activities in order to maintain and enhance work knowledge and skills;
- Demonstrate awareness of employee safety by performing duties in accordance to company and OSHA guidelines;
- Maintains high ethical standards by using sound judgment that benefits both the firm and its customers.
Required Education and Experience:
- Completion of a bachelor's degree in the field of engineering
- Minimum of five years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience with investigation and repair/rehab/retrofit design for existing structures
- PE or SE Licensed in IL
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Advanced degree
- Prior knowledge/experience with concrete repair
- Basic understanding of Autocad
Physical and Travel Demands:
- Office work may include prolonged exposure to computers and prolonged sitting
- Position requires some work to be completed outdoors with potential exposure to inclement weather conditions. Some work may be performed in confined spaces and at heights in excess of six feet. Some work is performed in a laboratory environment or in the field where the following conditions may apply: exposure to chemicals, noise, dust, variations in temperature and humidity, fumes and various types of equipment listed above
- May require the use of suspended scaffolding
- Must have the ability to climb
- Position requires medical clearance for the use of respirators
- Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) whenever necessary
- Office work may include prolonged exposure to computers and prolonged sitting. Position requires some work to be completed outdoors with potential exposure to inclement weather
- May require working additional hours
- Up to 30% travel may be required for this position
