Job Summary:
The Substation Estimator plays a critical role in the planning and budgeting of substation construction and upgrade projects. This position is responsible for assessing project requirements, estimating costs, and preparing detailed proposals to support project bids. The Substation Estimator works closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate and comprehensive cost assessments that align with project specifications and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cost Estimation: Prepare detailed cost estimates for substation construction and maintenance projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and overhead.
- Project Analysis: Analyze project plans, specifications, and drawings to determine project scope and identify potential cost drivers or risks.
- Bid Preparation: Develop and submit competitive bids for substation projects, ensuring all cost components are included and aligned with project requirements.
- Supplier and Subcontractor Coordination: Obtain and evaluate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors, negotiating terms and pricing as necessary to optimize cost efficiency.
- Budget Management: Monitor project budgets and cost performance, providing recommendations for cost control and adjustments as needed.
- Reporting: Prepare and present cost estimates and reports to project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders, providing clear and actionable insights.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of cost estimates, bids, and related documentation for future reference and compliance purposes.
- Collaboration: Work closely with project teams, engineers, and other professionals to ensure all aspects of the project are accurately estimated and managed.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience: Proven experience as an estimator in the construction or electrical industry, with specific experience in substation projects preferred.
- Skills: Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in estimation software and tools. Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Knowledge: In-depth understanding of substation construction processes, industry standards, and cost estimation practices.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Professional Estimator) are a plus.
Working Conditions:
