A large power generation client is looking to bring on a Civil Engineer to join their Engineering & Construction team. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience working large projects, experience working within project or construction management, and an Engineering degree. In this role, you will be responsible for providing engineering expertise for projects up to $250MM in value from beginning of FEED development through the commissioning of the facility.
Civil Engineer Responsibilities
- Provide subject matter guidance and advice across Discipline Specific areas for the engineering and capital projects portfolio.
- Overall responsibility for Discipline Specific approval of Project Specific from Pre-FEED through Commissioning & Start-up: scope of work, cost estimates, engineering drawings, company standards to be applied, and field implementation of same.
- Act as QA/QC for shop visits to suppliers, and for the construction activities in Discipline Specific areas.
- Management and/or participation in the Management of Change process
- Participate in all Process Safety activities (HAZOP, HAZID, etc.) and act as a Subject Matter Expert for Discipline Specific areas.
- Development of Project Plans for Discipline Specific areas - design & execution
- Develop Project Execution Plans for Discipline Specific areas from design through execution, identifying risks and opportunities where applicable.
- Ensure cost estimates are accurate and cost control measures are implemented and monitored effectively.
- Maintain & manage/mitigate the risk register for relevant projects and propose appropriate risk mitigations in Discipline Specific areas.
- Participate in development and management of construction budgets.
- Foster and enhance owner relationships with subcontractors and vendors in Discipline Specific areas.
- Regular application of industry best practice in contracting strategies, supplier selection, procurement, contract negotiation and contract management when responsible for assigned projects (Scope, size, scale, financial cost).
- Where appropriate, work with the Senior Project Manager to help develop a high-performance team, ensuring flawless integration of sub disciplines and functions throughout the project life-cycle.
Civil Engineer Requirements
- Engineering degree, minimum of BS level. (Civil, Electrical, Chemical, Petroleum, Mechanical)
- Previous experience in project or construction management role.
- Prior experience in the Wood Processing industry preferred
- Previous experience on small to complex projects.
- Project Management certification preferred (For example, PE or PMP).
- Ability to work effectively and flexibly as a member of a team and across teams.

- Travel as required to locations as well as to supplier/partner locations. Position is expected to be located at the Engineering Company offices during Detail Design and eventually relocate to the construction site. Travel could be roughly 25% of time and 4 weeks or more during the Pre-FEED and FEED stage, pending project.
Civil Engineer Role Details
- Role operates in Horizon 2 however will cover all Horizons, when necessary. The main focus is on strategic capital.
- Oversight, accountability and reporting of Discipline Specific safety, budget, schedule and concerns for all assigned projects.
- No direct reports but will be accountable for the Discipline Specific activities of engineering and construction contractors for all assigned projects.
- Must ensure compliance with permits and consents from local and national bodies (regulation) in Discipline Specific areas of expertise.
- Participate in decisions regarding Engineering, Vendor supply equipment & construction contracts.
- Working with a range of contracts from Self-perform through to full EPC.
