Overview
Position Summary:
Automation Specialists will test, validate, and troubleshoot complex building automation and control systems, including controllers, sensors, networked devices, and factory equipment microprocessor controls. Specialists must possess solid knowledge of various control systems and respond to system outages, failures, and electronics issues.
Responsibilities
Management:
- Respond promptly to service calls.
- Troubleshoot sensors using standard tools, meters, and calibration equipment.
- Read and understand wiring diagrams, schematics, and engineered drawings.
- Implement complex sequences of operations from system design documents.
- Adhere to cybersecurity policies and best practices.
Maintenance:
- Perform preventative maintenance and diagnostics on control system components.
- Troubleshoot automation system failures and recommend/carry out corrective actions.
- Set up and maintain trend logs for system diagnostics and repairs.
- Perform database maintenance and backup/restore functions.
Requirements
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Associate's degree or vocational training in a related field preferred.
- CompTIA certification required.
Experience:
- 5 years of experience as a technician with a systems manufacturer or authorized vendor.
- Experience with Tridium Niagara and at least one of the following: Distech, Schneider Electric, Johnson Controls, Trane, Honeywell.
- Experience in HVAC Controls or Building Automation using open system standards.
Knowledge:
- Advanced knowledge in computer networking and client/server environments.
- Familiarity with mechanical systems, scheduling, and management.
- Proficiency in Windows, word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, web applications, and databases.
Skills:
- Professional appearance and strong work ethic.

- Self-starter, able to work independently and in teams.
Work Environment
- Moderate exposure to elements such as temperature changes, dust, and loud noises.
- Exposure to construction, mechanical, and electrical hazards requiring basic safety precautions.
Physical Demands
- Moderate physical effort required; lifting objects up to 50 lbs.
- Extensive standing, walking, and climbing of ladders and scaffolds.
- Local and occasional out-of-town travel to job sites and customer locations
